Original India

 The penultimate scran review will be written on Original India. This is a small takeaway just off Alexandra Parade on Marne Street. They offer a wide range of cuisine from Hoagie Wraps to Chicken Pakora, but not a Shawarma Wrap, more on this later. The menu is reasonably priced, and they are open till midnight which is ideal as it is usually open in time for the last bus home.

Moving onwards, regarding the Shawarma; It probably wasn't a good idea to rock up to an establishment called 'Original India' and on your first visit, boldly ask for a Shawarma Wrap. Why is this such a bad idea, I hear you ask? As it turns out this food is Turkish, not Indian, so spoiler alert - it was not a dish offered by 'Original India'. They say first impressions last and because of my lack of knowledge on this subject, I was off to a bad start.

However, after carefully consulting the menu, I ended up going for a Hoagie Wrap. Chips, Donner meat, cheese, and garlic mayo, all inside a grilled wrap. Good food; A delicacy even. The wrap itself was very good, packed to the brim with its contents. The wrap was even accompanied with a side of kebab sauce which made for a good dipping option. It was finished promptly as to be honest, quite the hunger had been developed after many games of pool at the union, all of which were lost (It was corrupt).

To conclude, I would certainly recommend Original India. The food is good and is reasonably priced, and the staff are patient, evidenced by their tolerance for my request for a Shawarma wrap. Sitting in the heart of Dennistoun, it is well worth a visit.

 For the third blog post, the institution that is Nakodar Grill was selected for review. The Nakodar Grill is an Indian restaurant that sits just off Duke Street. 7 of us turned up on Friday evening excited for the curry that awaited us, only to find that Mr Kelly had booked us in for the Saturday. Not a great start. Thankfully they managed to find us space, surprising given the fact it was a Friday night and there were 7 of us. Welcome to the inaugural Dennistoun Scran blog. Over the course of these 5 blogs, I will be rating places I have been to for food in Dennistoun, pretty self-explanatory. These ratings will primarily be based off the quality of food and dining experience, however if it is a restaurant that only offers take-away, the latter will not factor in to score. For the first blog post, I have opted to review the Glasgow establishment that is Celinos, an Italian restaurant that offers an authentic and high-quality dining experience. They operate 2 restaurants, one in Dennistoun, on Alexandra Parade with the other located in Partick, on Dumbarton Road. On the allotted day of me visiting, I made an error in going with a party that included someone with allergies. Zen

 For the second review of the blog I have opted to go for a Chinese takeaway. The Chinese takeaway in question is Zen, arguably the finest purveyor of perishable comestibles in Dennistoun this side of the Yangtze. The true star of Zen is of course, its food. The menu is a vast array of Chinese delicacies , offering a diverse selection to cater to various tastes. From classics such as Sweet and Sour Chicken to options such as the Szechuan Beef, the quality and authenticity of the dishes are apparent. Though a sit-in option is not available, it is very rare that a Chinese of this ilk would have this so it does not detract from the overall experience. I ordered  Salt and Chilli Chicken and Chips with a side of Curry Sauce, with my fellow critics (flatmates) opting for a Chicken Chow Mein and the Szechhuan Beef, respectively.  The food only took 20 minutes to prepare, was piping hot upon arrival for collection and was procured for under £25.
