Amore D'Italia

For the final blog post, I opted for Amore D'Italia as the subject. The same team who had reviewed the Nakodar Grill ventured here with high hopes of a good quality Italian experience.

The menu catered to all with a wide section of pizzas, pasta, and calzone's available, as well as the typical side dishes you can expect at an Italian. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli, which came with a fair bit of stick from my fellow diners, but we roll with the punches.

The wait time for the food wasn't long and the portion sizes were very generous. The Calzone ordered could've been a doorstep if it wanted to, it was that big. That probably doesn't paint the best picture, but it is merely a nod to the sheer size of it. 10/10 portion sizes. The Ravioli was packed, and the sauce complimented the dish well. It was however only washed down with a glass of tap water as there was a hungover that had to be nursed.

The food in general was very nice with a standout being the Garlic and Rosemary Focaccia. Outstanding. The only self-inflicted downside of the meal was when I sarcastically gulped when looking at the bill within earshot of the staff. Thankfully it wasn't as awkward as it could've been, but the unforced errors are never ideal. This being said, it of course didn't detract from the meal and general experience.

Overall, it was a very good way to end this mini blog-series. The service was quick, friendly staff and good-quality food. Thank you for tuning in over the course of the 5 blogs, it has been greatly appreciated.

Nakodar Grill

For the third blog post, the institution that is Nakodar Grill was selected for review. The Nakodar Grill is an Indian restaurant that sits just off Duke Street. 7 of us turned up on Friday evening excited for the curry that awaited us, only to find that Mr Kelly had booked us in for the Saturday. Not a great start. Thankfully they managed to find us space, surprising given the fact it was a Friday night and there were 7 of us. We sat down at the table and the Kingfisher's were ordered, with the exception of Duncan, who was still hungover and opted for a water. Probably for the best. I ordered the Chicken Bhoona, accompanied with a garlic naan and some pilau rice. The wait time for the food wasn't too long and when it did arrive it did not disappoint. The portion sizes were generous and the Bhoona was well-spiced and had a moderate heat. The rice was fluffy and the naan had a good amount of charred sections.  The quality of the ingredients and the skilful preparation are evid...

Celino's

Welcome to the inaugural Dennistoun Scran blog. Over the course of these 5 blogs, I will be rating places I have been to for food in Dennistoun, pretty self-explanatory. These ratings will primarily be based off the quality of food and dining experience, however if it is a restaurant that only offers take-away, the latter will not factor in to score. For the first blog post, I have opted to review the Glasgow establishment that is Celinos, an Italian restaurant that offers an authentic and high-quality dining experience. They operate 2 restaurants, one in Dennistoun, on Alexandra Parade with the other located in Partick, on Dumbarton Road. On the allotted day of me visiting, I made an error in going with a party that included someone with allergies. Never ideal, but the staff were very helpful in guiding them through the menu in what they needed to avoid. That aside, everything was very nice inside and was very inviting. I opted for the Salsiccia Aurora pasta and butchered the pron...

Zen

For the second review of the blog I have opted to go for a Chinese takeaway. The Chinese takeaway in question is Zen, arguably the finest purveyor of perishable comestibles in Dennistoun this side of the Yangtze. The true star of Zen is of course, its food. The menu is a vast array of Chinese delicacies , offering a diverse selection to cater to various tastes. From classics such as Sweet and Sour Chicken to options such as the Szechuan Beef, the quality and authenticity of the dishes are apparent. Though a sit-in option is not available, it is very rare that a Chinese of this ilk would have this so it does not detract from the overall experience. I ordered  Salt and Chilli Chicken and Chips with a side of Curry Sauce, with my fellow critics (flatmates) opting for a Chicken Chow Mein and the Szechhuan Beef, respectively.  The food only took 20 minutes to prepare, was piping hot upon arrival for collection and was procured for under £25. Hard to have any complaints thus f...
